Vetiver System for Gully Stabilization - GO GREEN!!

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

I thought I would share with you a few photos sent to me by Paul Truong on using sandbags and vetiver to stabilize a small gully in Queensland Australia.  Note the very tidy and effective layout, and the fact that the site is partially shady - of course that strong Aussie sun will get through to anything!!

Paul filled the bags with 1/3 to 1/2 of soil+ NP fertilizers for fast growth and 1/2 sand to make it heavy to sit firm on the surface.

This application is not difficult to do and is relatively inexpensive.  The great thing is that once the bags rot the slope will remain stable as the vetiver has grown right through the bags and into the soil
